Byers(played by Bruce Harwood), Langly (played by Dean Haglund), and Frohike (played by Tom Braidwood) are three paranoid, and rather odd, computer-hackers. They first met eachother in the episode Unusual Suspects (a flashback to nine years ago), and the three became friends, deciding to work together to hack into secret government files and expose the truths behind the lies. In this episode they also met Mulder, who just so happened to believe that the government was keeping things from the public also. Ever since then, these three men have printed a newspaper called the Lone Gunmen, the name relating to the murder of John F. Kennedy, and have kept in touch with Mulder, giving him information he's needed, analysing data, decoding files, etc. They help Scully when she asks them to, probably just because she's Mulder's partner they think she's really cute.

Byers, nicknamed the cowardly lion, has always been the more proper and polite member of the group. Always dressed in suits, he looks as if he'd never dream of hacking into computers and digging up classified information, but he would and he does. Byers is usually the one to piece together the evidence and point out problems in their plans, and is just as untrusting as his two friends. In the episode "Unusual Suspects" Byers met a woman named Suzanne Modeski. In the end of the episode she kisses him goodbye, then is captured by men in black in a black car. Ever since then, he has been searching for her. As revealed in the episode "B.R.M." (which is a very good LGM episode) every night he has a dream about a perfect world, where the government is trustworthy, and where he lives hapily with his two children and wife, Suzanne. But everynight the dream ends the same, with him losing it all. He ends up meeting Suzanne at a casino in Las Vegas, and in the end of this episode, Suzanne asks him to run away with her, but he says that he can't. How typical.

Langly, nicknamed Scarecrow, has stringy blonde hair (which he absolutely refuses to cut), thick black rimmed glasses, and is always wearing some type of rock-group t-shirt. He's the communications expert in the group, taking phone calls(carefully recording each one), delivering messages to unknown sources, etc. Out of the three, Langly is the most likely to lie and has, on a few occasions, to Mulder. In the episode "B.R.M" Scully calls him 'cutie'. He also looks like my uncle. How scary.

Frohike, nicknamed Toto, is the shortest of the group, and was a soldier in the Vietnam War. His first reaction to meeting Scully in the episode E.B.E was "She's hot!" One time he traded Mulder a pair nightvision goggles for Scully's phone number, and another time, he was the only person to bring Scully flowers after her abduction in the episode One Breath. Frohike is the surveillance and photographic specialist in the group. I have a strong suspicion that he has pictures of Scully plastered all over his walls.
