Before Scully (played by Gillian Anderson) joined the FBI, she was a medical doctor with a specialty in forensic pathology. Then, to her parent's dissapointment, she began teaching at the FBI's training academy. Two years later, Section Chief Scott Blevins assigned her to work with Fox Mulder, in order to debunk his work. Instead of stopping Mulder's investigations into the paranormal, she's saved his life many times and helped solve many cases that he couldn't have solved on his own.
Before working with Mulder, she was a firm believer that everything had a scientific explanation. She thought, and still thinks, that Mulder's theories about aliens, conpiracies, etc. are "out there",
but after her abduction in the first season episode Ascension, she is willing to believe more and more of Mulder's strange ideas.
Even though Scully isn't all that open minded, she has many good points. As she first reveals in Season 1's Eve, she is really good with kids, and has the ability to get people to talk when they didn't want to at first. She's always stopping Mulder from doing incredibly stupid things (breaking into top-secret government facilities, killing someone, you know), and she definetly is not some sort of bimbo (she has a brown belt in karate, but still, she does have the tendancy to be knocked over a lot). Without her, who knows where Mulder would be right now?
Scully has a strange family. Her father was a sea captain, her sister was a psyhcic, and her dog, which was given to her by a psycic (who told her that she would never die), is named Queequeg. She also has two brothers. One, which we never really see, and one, that is really tall, as in taller than Mulder and Skinner tall, and really mean. His name is Bill. OK, so I guess he's probably a pretty nice person, but he hates Mulder's guts. (That gives us one really good reason to not like him.)
Scully has had a very depressing life ever since she got assigned to work on the X-Files. Her dad died of a heart attack in a first season episode called Beyond the Sea. Her sister, Melissa, was shot by Luis Cardinal, who was working with Alex Krycek, in the third season episode Paper Clip. Her dog got killed in the episode Quagmire, at the end of the third season, by a legendary sea monster nicknamed Big Blue. And as all this was happening, she found out that she had a type of rare, and possibly incurable, cancer in the episode Momento Mori, which was thought to have been a result of a small metal chip found in the back of her neck, in the episode One Breath, after she was abducted.
The only person she trusts completely is Mulder, although she's been known to shoot him when necessary.
